My Perfect Dress

My Perfect Dress

Finding the perfect dress was extremely hard for me. I lost 20 pounds in 8 months, and every dress that I tried on looked bad on me. I kept on thinking, "I am going to have to buy a dress and then spend hundreds more altering it." Granted, I only did go to 2 bridal stores. haha I found dresses that I LOVED on Etsy, but I was afraid to order one and not like it (most Etsy stores don't do returns because the ship to size). And I would most likely have to spend more money to get it altered. My sister-in-law, Jordan, had hers made. I then had the idea to get mine made as well. I started searching everywhere for someone that could make my dress. One day, I saw a post of a wedding dress on Utah Valley. It was a Natalie Wynn Design. I looked her up, and I loved every one of her dresses. They were unique and I could tell she wasn't afraid to do something different! By this time, I was pretty set on having a Lavender skirt. I decided to email her, but I didn't think it would work out, because most people I had emailed were pretty booked. But Natalie, is so talented and obviously it worked out. :)

"Hi Natalie!

My name is Alex Powell. I love your wedding dresses! I am getting married August 5th and I was wanting more information on your dresses. Do you do custom dresses? What are your price ranges?

"Hi Alex!

Thank you so much for reaching out to me!  I'm so sorry about the delayed response.  I do make custom wedding dresses!  I can do consultations via FaceTime for long distance brides, or in my studio in Salt Lake City if you're in Utah.

Let me know if you'd like to set something up!

Thank you so much, Natalie"

After that, we continued emailing. I sent her some pictures of dresses that I liked on Etsy, and we ended up setting up a time to meet on FaceTime. Talking to Natalie made me so excited. She sent me some fabrics to look at, and right away I could tell my dress was going to be AMAZING. Natalie is so nice and easy to work with. She is seriously so talented. While we were talking, she did a quick sketch of a dress and I was sold.

I ended up going to her studio a couple weeks later to get measured and to see the fabric so that she could get my dress started. The fabric was perfect. The tulle she ordered at first, was too dark, but she ordered three other colors that she decided to layer on top of each other. She also asked me to think about doing an all lavender dress instead of just the bottom being lavender and the top white. I had never thought about it, but I trusted Natalie to make something beautiful. I told her to do whatever she liked.

She finished my dress way earlier than I thought she would. About 4 weeks after we started doing fittings (I went once a week for 3 weeks), she emailed me saying that my dress was finished. She ended up bringing the dress to Provo. It was amazing to see the finished product. It was different than I ever imagined it being, but 10 times better. Natalie is so talented at the little details. It was amazing to see her create something from basically nothing, to one of the most beautiful dresses I had ever seen. I would refer Natalie to anyone.

Getting my dress custom made was one of the best parts of planning my wedding. It is so cool to think that I have a dress that no one else has. If you are thinking of doing something a little different (like having a lavender dress), just do it. I know I will never regret my dress. Also, go look at Natalie's work. She really is one of the most talented people that I have ever met, and is so fun/easy to work with. You wouldn't regret working with her. Below are some pictures of my dress:
